How to deal with global warming

The earth’s climate is changing due to human activities that release greenhouse gases into the air. The situation will lead to increased severe weather, habitat destruction ,flooding , and diseases, all of which will have serious impacts on our society. In order to reduce our contribution to global warming, we could do a lot of things in key areas of human and environmental health: energy efficiency, sustainable materials and forests protection.
Increasing fuel efficiency and using reusable materials can reduce the CO2 emissions, but protecting the forests is more important in solving this problem. Increasing the fuel efficiency is a cost-effective and technologically feasible method to address the threat of global warming, benefit our economy, and protect public health. It is not only saving energy, but also protect the environment. The large-scale CO2 savings that are necessary require a shift to renewable fuels. we should look for fuels, whose carbon percentage is low so that it will produce lo CO2 emission. we should encourage this shift and also do something to help it to be done, for example demonstration. when compared to these two points, protecting forests is more important. The reason is that forests are the first place to absorb greenhouse gas CO2. Most of the CO2 is absorbed by the forests. When there are not enough forests, the greenhouse gas will accumulate and last for a very long time. Deforestation—the cutting and burning of forests that trap and store carbon—accounts for about another 20 percent. Scientists agree that if we wait 10, 20, or 50 years, the problem will be much more difficult to address and the consequences for us will be that much more serious.
These solutions won't only reduce global warming, many will save us money and create new business opportunities. Then we have to let consumers know what to do and provide incentives to help all of us make better choices.

From an article I came across in Time Magazine last month, it was said that alternative biofuel does not do any good to the environment. However, it does more harm than fossil fuel does to the environment.
Ethanol, (abstracted from corn) is recently identified as the alternative biofuel. It is strongly backed by the US government. Ever since, many farmers have switched to corn plantation for the great profits they could get. Corns are sold to industries instead of given to us as food. The soaring price of corn has caused the price of animal-feed to rise ever high, thus resulting in our high food price today.
Also, deforestation is done even more vigorously today to generate more ground area for corn plantation.
Is ethanol helping the environment? I doubt so!
